MI CLUSTER

Today we will learn one of my favorite clusters, *MI!

Oravia English
miau cat
micuc chicken
miopi fox
mihie horse
miotan elephant
micea rabbit

What do you think the MI cluster is about?

These can also be used as verbs or adjectives, based on common cross-linguistic associations:

Oravia English
miau cat, graceful
micuc chicken, coward
miopi fox, cunning
mihie horse, endurance, stamina
miotan elephant, good memory, remember
micea rabbit, shy, skittish

So for example, if one says "I'm elephant", it means "I have a good memory". Or, if they say "I cat into the house", it would mean something like "I enter gracefully in the house"!

There is another cluster for animals that we will learn later. Today's MI cluster is for bigger animals, and the other cluster is for smaller animals like insects and rodents.

Run i vanta e mi?

You are ready for the exercise now!

Matching Games

Time to practice! Match the Oravia words with their English meanings. Use sound-meaning associations as clues. For example, the subcluster sound tells you the category, even for words you haven't seen before.
If you don't remember or make a mistake, that's totally fine! We will have plenty of opportunities to practice. Right now just give it a try.
Click one word from each column to match them. The game will check automatically when you select both words.
