Today we will learn our next cluster, YU!

Oravia English
yudur hard, difficult
yuloa perfect
yunro smart
yunfou poor
yunitam special
yuvabo comfortable

What do you think the YU cluster is about?

The YA Cluster is for objective qualities, things that can be measured like tall, big, solid. The YU Cluster is for subjective qualities, like difficult, perfect and special.

๐ŸŒ Sound Connections

Loa means all / complete and comes from Hawaiian loa (very much, extremely).

Dur is like Latin durus (hard, tough), which is reflected in word such as Spanish duro, French dur, and Portuguese duro.

Other words that use these roots:
vidur = bone (internal body + hard), just like yudur = hard, difficult (subjective quality + hard)
joldur = iron (material types + hard)

Sound Connections

Any words in the table above have sounds you already know from other words? What do they mean?

Ce yunitam u run?

Now try to create a sentence using YU words, or 3 if you're up for a challenge!

You are ready for the exercise now!

Matching Games

Time to practice! Match the Oravia words with their English meanings. Use sound-meaning associations as clues. For example, the subcluster sound tells you the category, even for words you haven't seen before.
If you don't remember or make a mistake, that's totally fine! We will have plenty of opportunities to practice. Right now just give it a try.
Click one word from each column to match them. The game will check automatically when you select both words.
