LI CLUSTER

Let's take a look at the LI Cluster!

Oravia English
lili again
litam day
liyar morning
lisoi soon
lilon while
litegai minute

What do you think these words have in common?

🌍 Sound Connections

Li is from Mandarin εŽ† / 曆 li (calendar).

Yar means "light", like Arabic آياؑ ḍiyāʾ (radiant light).

That's why we have:
yoyar = white (color + light), just like liyar = morning (time + light)

Now let's see these words in context:

1. Ana: Eon, Kai!
Celi run i anifi en beilem?

2. Kai: Nim i anifi lisoi.
Nim i bejui e beitor litamar. Eta, i foum i gerina en beitan.

beilem = station Β· beitor = bicycle Β· bejui = rent Β· litamar = yesterday Β· beitan = bus

Matching Games

Time to practice! Match the Oravia words with their English meanings. Use sound-meaning associations as clues. For example, the subcluster sound tells you the category, even for words you haven't seen before.
If you don't remember or make a mistake, that's totally fine! We will have plenty of opportunities to practice. Right now just give it a try.
Click one word from each column to match them. The game will check automatically when you select both words.
