Lesson 26: Sequences

How to Use This Lesson

Every lesson is divided into five sections: Warm-Up, Grammar, Vocabulary, Exercise, and Review. Please move through these tabs in order.

Do not try to memorize! Just read through the content attentively. We will have plenty of exercises and reviews later!

How much do you remember?

Check the boxes for words you think you know. Then click Show Answers to reveal the meanings and uncheck any you got wrong.

Sequences

The NO Cluster has two very interesting words: notam and notor. Do you notice anything in these words?

We use these to express timelines! We have:

notam = no + tam (one) = event that comes first, earlier
notor = no + tor (two) = event that comes second, later

For example:

Notam nim i mo, notor i bonfene = first I eat, second I lie down

You don't need to use both, you can use just one and leave the other implicit, like this:

notam nim i mo, i bonfene = first I eat, (second) I lie down
notor i bonfene, i mo = second I lie down, (first) I eat

In English, this often corresponds to before/after, depending on which event you use as reference.

Celi run i anifi en eompela?
When are you coming to the party?

Notam i anona e moulu u fani.
First, I give milk to my baby.
Celi run i anepou e anse?
When do you stop work?

Notor i anepou, i anye e hoi borcai.
Second I stop, (first) I make this wall.

Now try to create 3 sentences using notam and notor:
