Questions

Now, see if you can understand these sentences. If you scroll bellow, you will see tips, and then answers.

run i anona e molbai u falne.
hai i daium i anona e mouje u run.
rune fare i anona e molcui u nim?
nime i foum i mo.

Tips

anona = give
molbai = cup
falne = child
mouje = drink
fare = parent
molcui = bowl
(ani)dai = to want
(ani)fou = to need

And here's a short dialogue. There's a new word in it: eloan, which means gratitude, thank you. See if you can understand it:

N: Nim i anifi! Ceidom run?
B: i anefene en bonfene.
N: Nim i anifou e molvou yasoi. Nimae fano i anidai e moval moulu. Ceidom run i anefe e molvou? En bonjae?
B: Um, en bontame! Nim i anona u run.
N: Eloan. i daium i boemo...
B: Nim i boemo u run.

Congratulations! This was our first dialogue. Notice that in casual conversations you can drop pronouns and markers if the meaning is clear from context. As we get more used to the grammar, we can drop more and more :)

Now, try to create 3 sentences using the u marker. Remember:

a [subject] i [verb] e [thing] u [recipient]

The IL Clusters

Today we will learn a new cluster, IL! Look at these words.

Oravia English
ilace ask
ilonya forget
ilian know
ilaluan say
iliro think
iloto worry

The IL cluster has words related to inquiry, that is, the desire and need to know. It includes asking and sharing information, mental processes, and feelings that come from not knowing.

These words are very powerful to talk about a variety of things, because inquiry is essential to who we are as humans.

Recall words are flexible. In which ways do you think these words can be used as adjectives, verbs, or nouns? For example:

Oravia English
ilace to ask, question, curious, curiosity
ilonya to forget, forgetful
ilian to know, understand
ilaluan to say, saying
iliro to think, thought, opinion
iloto worry, concern, to worry

You are ready for the Exercise now!
